Two years ago, I had an opportunity to fulfill my dream of opening my own scrapbooking store. The past 2 years have been an exciting journey. I was able to keep the Nook name that was started by Patti & Elia, meet some wonderful people – both through the store and the message board – and as a result, I now have an amazing group of friends that share my passion for scrapbooking.

However, I am saddened to say that due to things beyond my control, I will be closing the retail store of Scrapping Nook Ltd, effective April 30th, 2012.

It’s not all bad news though! I will still have the online store and be carrying all the same great products that I do today! The message board will not be going away, either. Also, for the time being, the Design Team will remain the same.

In order to make the transition from the retail store to being strictly an online business, I will need to reduce my current inventory. Starting in early February, I will be reducing the prices of almost all of the products by 20%, with gradual increases in the weeks to follow.

I want to take this time to thank Tara for the amazing job she did managing the store for me. Her dedication to her job is outstanding and I could not have been able to do it all without her. Margo’s wonderful personality made the customers feel happy about shopping – and her willingness to always help out when needed is always greatly appreciated. I also owe a great deal of thanks to Judy, who although is not an employee, she was always there to help Tara with product placement and filling the ‘holes’ when pegs became empty. She too, was always available to help when needed. I also can’t forget Jeff, who provided all the IT support – and I hope I can still continue to rely on his services for the online business.

I also want to thank the Design Team. Although they aren’t going anywhere, they are still key to the operation of the Nook with their fabulous designs hanging in the store as well as online. They also do a fantastic job with the message board – organizing crops and other fun activities. They are the BEST!!!

Anyways, stay tuned for more announcements about sales, classes beyond April, Design Team and the online store.

We're Turning Two!!

Ok. So I (Janice) spent an hour last night at the store cutting all the strips of papers with the names on them (all 345 of them) and put them into a big box. I started with a jar, but it filled up too fast. Moved on to a small bin. Still too small, so a big box it was! I had Gillian's mom, Mary, pull 2 names and Carol Lawley pull 2 names during Jodi's baby class last night.

I am a self confessed workaholic. So you may ask when do I have time to be artistic? Well anytime I am not working cause' I am also a scrapaholic and need to be creative. One balances out the other and vice versa, if you know what I mean. I am a dual brain thinker, very analytical and logical by day, but creative and intuitive by night! I have a wonderful DH that supports my habit. I have no children of my own but have a plethora of kids in my life that my friends generously donate to my photography. I have been scrapbooking for almost 8 years and have loved it from day one. I love paper, flowers and bright colours and make layouts from simple to complex and in all sizes.

REMINDER!!!!!! Design Team Expansion!!!!

We Are Looking to Expand our Design Team!!!

1. Each Design Team member will receive a kit each month with which they are required to design layouts for both in store (2) and online (at least one more LO and/or card and/or other project). There are no "deadlines" on when these should be done each month, but they should be done within the first three weeks and they can be staggered (not posted all at once).

2. Design Team members will participate in the monthly online crops. That would mean providing challenges (min 3 each) and sample layouts (if possible, but not necessary).

3. Design Team members will post regularly on the message boards. On average, 50-100 posts per month would be preferred. This does not include comments in the gallery. A "regular" appearance on the board is important in keeping it active.

4. Design Team members will regularly comment on projects in the gallery. This is really important during and after crops, but other times as well.

If you are interested, please forward your contact information (name, address, phone number and email address) along with photos of 3 layouts, cards and/or projects you have completed to contact@thescrappingnook.ca no later than 11:59pm EST on September 1, 2011.

Hi! My name is Patti Thompson. I have been an avid scrapbooker for about 12 years. I scrapbook everything from random photos to people, to landmarks and all things in between. In my opinion, no photo is too offbeat to put to paper.
I am naturally drawn to bright, vivid colours, love lots of white space on my page, and can spend hours crafting a “larger than life” title for a layout. I am trying harder lately to document the “story” behind the photos so that each page I create helps me remember precious memories.
By day, I earn a living as a Law Clerk, in Toronto, and in my “down time” I love spending time with my family, friends, reading, going for walks, photography, and forcing myself to go the gym.
I have some fun things planned for my three-month stint at the Nook, and hope you all will play along so that we can get to know each other a little better!

My name is Tracy Mittleholtz. I'm known just simply as TracyM on the boards, because that last name is just too long to write all of the time. I'm currently living in Wiarton, ON with my husband, Brad and where I'm a stay at home mom of two boys. Noah, who is almost 6 and Ethan, who is 4. They are the centre of most of my creations.

I've been scrapbooking since about 1999, but got my first "new style" book in 2003 when I did my wedding album. Currently, I'm really into sewing on my projects, inking, painting and doing vintage stuff for my husbands grandma. I also have a blog that I get to once in a while to showcase my creations.

I'm very much looking forward to being a guest design team member for the next 3 months. This is my first venture at being a part of a design team, and it just may not be my last. It has been a lot of fun so far.

Saturday, May 7th is National Scrapbook Day and we have lots of stuff planned to celebrate!

On our message boards, we have an online crop with many challenges planned! Some challenges will be ongoing for the whole weekend while others will only allow a certain amount of time to complete
In the store, we will be doing a make & take using some of our new Marianne Designs Creatables dies. The make & take will be available from 10am - 1pm at no charge.

What would a celebration be without a SALE? When you check out with your purchases, you will draw a paper token and that will determine the discount you will receive off your entire purchase of regular priced items (some exclusions apply)*. Discounts will range from 10% to 40%.

Join us for the return of Destination Create, sure to be "the" scrapbooking event of 2011!

Held at the beautiful Four Points by Sheraton hotel in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, this event promises to be the ultimate scrapbooker's getaway.

The Event

Check in any time on Friday after 3:00 pm. Weekend ends at 2:00 pm on Sunday. No detail has been overlooked. From the welcome baskets awaiting you at check-in, to the 3,700 square foot crop room, amazing meals prepared by top notch chefs, beautiful, spacious suites complete with high speed internet access and the goodie bags you will receive prior to your departure, this event is truly one of a kind.

All prices set out herein are all-inclusive, including meals, snacks, gratuities and taxes (where applicable).

The Crop

24 hour crop room (secured at all times) * Opens Friday at 3:00 pm and closes Sunday at 2:00 pm * 6 linear feet of crop space for each cropper at oblong tables * Working tools include Accu-Cut machine, Sizzix machine, Cuttlebug (many dies including alphabets), sewing machine, many punches and lots of other standard scrapbooking tools * Fully stocked onsite scrapbooking store * Make & Takes * Snacks provided throughout the day * Prizes for layouts, cards, etc. (for those wishing to participate) * Random draws throughout each day * Optional classes (held in separate classroom facilities) to be taught by industry leading scrapbookers and paper crafters. I am SO excited to be the Guest Design Team member for the next few months! I have already started using the wonderful kits provided to me by the Nook! This has really given me a kick in the behind to start scrapping again!

My name is Cathy a.k.a. CathyM on the Nook Boards. I have been scrapbooking for about 11 or 12 years. I started scrapbooking when I couldn’t find the kind of baby book I wanted after my youngest daughter was born. There wasn’t much to buy back then, so I opened my own home based scrapbooking store and had that for about 6 years. It was a fun experience and I met lots of great people!

In my “real life” I am a mom and a part time high school science teacher. I am happily married to Jeff & I have 2 daughters Caitlin & Jennifer who are the main theme of my scrapbooks. We also have a yorkie and she makes it in quite a few photos too! We love Florida and usually go once a year! Christmas is my favourite holiday!

My favourite thing to buy is paper! If I live to be 100 and use 10 sheets of paper a day, I probably would still have paper left over! LOL Right now my favs are BoBunny & Fancy Pants papers. I also love to make my own paper flowers. I think I like making them more than using them! I also love gems and bling (thanks to KarenT)! I love my I-rock!

I have been part of the Nook board for about 3 1/2 years and I love it here! All the ladies are so friendly and willing to lend an ear whenever needed. I have enjoyed many crops and get togethers I have been involved with at the Nook and I hope to be a part of many, many more!

So that’s a little about me! I can hardly wait to work with all the other talented ladies on the Design Team for the next 3 months! Thanks to Janice, Tara & Margo for the opportunity! See you on the boards!!!
